Developing Delaware’s Workforce

Any business is only as good as its team. Next time your company is hiring, consider bringing on a Vo-Tech grad. We should know: we’ve hired a few who continue to add value to our team every day – and had the pleasure of working with many more.

GillespieHall has long known and understood the value of a vocational-technical education, and the New Castle County Vo-Tech School District is recognized as one of the best in the nation. Its schools graduate professionals who take initiative and take pride in their work. They are confident, resourceful and dedicated. They come with real work experience, and they make excellent members of any professional team.

More than 4,600 students currently attend Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington, Delcastle Technical High School in Newport, Hodgson Vo-Tech High School in Glasgow, or St. Georges Technical High School in Middletown – the schools that make up the NCC Vo-Tech School District.

These four schools have adopted an integrated approach to developing Delaware’s workforce. Academic and technical teachers coordinate instruction. Seniors develop real work experience through co-op work placements, or accumulate college credits through dual enrollment in college courses.

Each school also provides a full range of extracurricular activities including athletics, career and technical student organizations, student government, honor society, drama, national skills competitions and more. Through their participation in these opportunities, students develop communication, leadership and social skills, and students graduate highly-skilled and career-ready.

This is why we were beyond thrilled to participate in the Vo-Tech District’s Career Signing Day, where 13 graduating seniors signed letters of intent to join their co-op employer full-time. Congratulations to Superintendent Dr. Victoria Gehrt, Kathy Demarest and the extraordinary faculty at all four schools for capturing the attention of Senator Chris Coons – and thank you for educating generations of Delaware’s workforce.
